What to Wear to Work This August

August is here, which means that although fall is just around the corner, temperatures are soaring, and the best of every summer wardrobe has already been worn, making all of the remaining options seem boring or overdone.

Once this point of the summer rolls around, and the novelty of the summer weather wears off, it becomes harder to be inventive with style choices. In times like these, it’s hard to pass over an easy summer dress or tank top, which is precisely why office fashion seems to suffer the most in August.

We reimagined our own wardrobes and worked out a game plan to make even the warmest of our office staples work in the annual August heat. We rounded up all our favorites that are perfect August wardrobe additions, regardless of budget.

Lightweight button downs

Button downs are perfect transitional pieces because they are so versatile. Add a blazer on top for an office with a dress code, or pair with a skirt and colorful mule heel for happy hour soirées. We love the below options because they are each unique takes on the classic button down, and can be dressed up or down depending on the rest of your outfit.

Kitten heel sandals

Kitten heels are our favorite current trend: they make any outfit look way more polished but are still comfortable enough to wear for extended periods of time. Strappy, colorful versions are a closet must-have this summer, and will still be wearable once fall arrives. Pair with cool trousers and a silk top or your favorite LBD. These shoes can do it all.

Summer Suits

Every working girl knows how important it is to own a power suit. From the red carpet to political conventions, strong women always seem to have at least one well-tailored version in their closet. We love playful takes on the traditional power suit to make them work in the summer heat while still remaining work appropriate. Light fabrics, such as linen or cotton, paired with fun colors make summer suits a breeze to style, day or night. Pair with a polished pair of sneakers for daytime office wear, and swap out for a bold lip and your favorite heels for nighttime wear.
