Hotel Luna Convento
If you’ve ever wondered what it would have been like to live a secluded life in a monastery overlooking the Tyrrhenian sea, look no further. Hotel Luna Convento is a hundreds of years old monastery complete with a Moresque cloister surrounding a serene garden and a well that has long since functioned to bring fresh water to the monastery’s inhabitants.
The hotel itself is perched steps away from steep cliffs that lead either to beaches or straight to the sea. Take a leisurely stroll about fifteen minutes from the hotel down the main road and arrive in the heart of Amalfi.
As if the thought of swimming in the Tyrrhenian sea isn’t tempting enough, this hotel also features a beautiful sea water pool overlooking the sea, complete with a solarium and three separate decks seemingly cut into the cliffs themselves. Should the pool no longer satisfy your need to be in the water, two of the decks offer private access to the sea itself, allowing you to jump right in before heading back up to sunbathe.
If you’re as lucky as we were during our stay, you’ll be able to watch the lifeguard dip into the sea to pull traps filled with live crabs as bait from the depths of the crystal clear water. As he hauls these traps out, you’ll be able to see what fresh catch will be featured that evening at the hotel’s beautiful open-air restaurant, Torre Saracena, that evening.
Hotel Luna Convento is a dream and we can’t recommend it highly enough. Next time you’re vacationing in Amalfi, be sure to stay a night or two and take in all that this historic hotel has to offer.
